UN hails suspension of Burkini ban in France – PRESS TV

PRESS TV – U-N Human Rights Spokesman Rupert Colville slammed the ban and said it has triggered QUOTE religious stigmatization and intolerance in France. Colville stressed that the ban undermines women’s autonomy to make independent decisions about what to wear on public beaches. The U-N official made the remarks after France’s highest administrative court suspended the Burkini ban imposed in several towns in southern France. This is while French authorities, along with over 20 mayors on the Mediterranean coast have refused to follow suit and kept the restriction in place, claiming the move prevents public disorder.
